EMBAIXADA BRITÂNICA CONTRATA CLIMATE CHANGE, PRESS & PUBLIC DIPLOMACY OFFICER

The British Embassy invites applications for the above full-time, contractual position.
The Press and Public Diplomacy Officer will be integral to a growing Climate Security team at the British Embassy in Brasilia. You will be responsible for monitoring press coverage on climate security issues in Brazil; writing press releases and press articles relating to climate security issues; organising and liasing with the press for high-level visits; developing a public diplomacy strategy for communicating UK action to combat climate change; developing with the Programme and Public Diplomacy team media activity around key projects.
Essential requirements: University degree in either communications, journalism, International Relations, or Environment; at least 6 years relevant professional experience, including experience of communications, campaigns or media work. A good knowledge of the media in Brazil and some knowledge of climate change issues. A wide established network of contacts. Experience doing representational work, including with the media.Excellent presentation and communication skills. Communication skills are required in both spoken and written English and Portuguese, as well as strong IT skills (Microsoft Office). The successful candidate will be a strong team player, flexible and a good multi-tasker and be an excellent communicator and influencer.
Monthly Salary: R$ 6.849,00. Start Date: 1 April 2008. The contract will initially be for one year, renewable for a further year if performance is satisfactory.

Main purpose of job
To work in the Climate Security Team (CST) as a Press and Public Diplomacy Officer, with responsibility for delivery of press and public diplomacy work.
Duties and responsibilities

Develop a media strategy for the CST to achieve objectives established in the Embassy’s country business plan. Identify and build relationships with a broad range of stakeholders in Brazil to ensure UK policy is well understood.

Monitor press coverage on climate security issues in Brazil; feedback to CST on developments in media; write press releases and press articles relating to climate security issues; organise and liasing with the press for high-level visits.

Develop a public diplomacy strategy for communicating UK action to combat climate change and support development and monitor implementation of CST campaign programmes.
