Background
The International Poverty Centre (IPC) is a global centre for applied research and training on poverty. It is based on a partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), which is linked to the Government of Brazil. The IPC seeks to expand developing countries' knowledge and capacities to design and implement effective policies against poverty.
The Centre linked its applied research to UNDP's increasing support for MDG-based development strategies. This has intensified research on pro-poor growth, economic policies, employment and social policies. The IPC’s ultimate goal is to generate knowledge resources to UNDP and other partners, including researchers and government agencies in developing countries as well as NGOs and activists. For that the Centre regularly publishes Working Papers, issues of Poverty in Focus magazine, Policy Research Briefs, Country Studies, One Pagers, Evaluation Notes, Conference Papers and Technical Papers to encourage policy debate and dissemination of knowledge on key poverty topics. Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the IPC Director, the selected Consultant will provide the following services:
• Copy Edit IPC’s publications;
• Liaise with the IPC Team, provide with necessary background info and feedback as required;
• Work with the authors where needed/requested and ensure overall progress in the development of the publication;
• Participate in consultations and working meetings as requested;
• Coordinate various drafts of the publications; provide substantial guidance in revision process, with consolidated feedback to authors;
• Work closely with the IPC Communication and Outreach Team.

Competencies
The Copy Editor is required to have expertise in ensuring accuracy and completeness of IPC publications. This should include:
• Recent experience in copy editing
• Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively
• Ability to manage processes, maintain accurate records
• Ability to interpret/analyze a wide variety of economic and social data
• Ability to identify/resolve data discrepancies
• Effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner.
• Initiative and willingness to keep abreast of new development issues.
• Proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel and Word) and other IT applications.
• Good interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with
budget/finance, human resource counterparts
Required Skills and Experience
• Excellent writing, editing and communications skills
• Experience of working in the field of copy editing
• University degree in the field of Social Science
• Experience related to UNDP's mandate and activities is an asset
• Experience of working in development issues in highly desirable
• Very strong analytical skills, ability to multi-task
